Sadly enough many of our contemporary and most well-known theologians do not preach and teach the light and life of Christ; but rather a system based on principles surrounding the Ten Commandments. They will say things like, ‘The commandments are God’s moral design for the Christian life. And a true Christian walks habitually in the light of God’s moral standards.’ Basically stating, ‘Now that we have escaped the tyranny of the law, we should set our focus back upon it as a guide for life’; tragically implying in all irony that this whole approach is somehow pleasing to God. However, nothing could be further from the truth, or from the gospel itself, (see II Cor. chapter 3).
The following are scriptures taken from both the Old and New Testament surrounding the origin of life for the Christian.
Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that anyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.’ So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived. ~ Numbers 21:8-9
‘And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. ~ John 3:14-15
I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain. ~ Galatians 2:21
Is the law then against the promise of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. ~ Galatians 3:21

Listen my beloved, long before our precious Savior was lifted up; Moses lifted a serpent on a pole in the wilderness. His instruction to the people simply stating, ‘If you want to live, look directly at the serpent.’ My friends, the only thing that has changed between Moses’ prophecy and now, is the glorious fact that we have the person of Christ in us to look upon for life. If the commandments were meant to be a guiding light, and a moral compass for life; I truly believe Moses would have lifted up the commandments instead of pointing toward the cross!
